Using Optimal Surface Re ectance Functions to Study
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a computational deenition of the Optimal Color Stimuli surface, which corresponds to the limit of physically realizable surface spectral reeectance functions. We can use this surface to quantify and visualize color space properties, as we demonstrate for the CIE XYZ and L*a*b* spaces, as well as our own neurophysiologically-based NPP space. We then extend the technique to compute a representative set of surface spectral reeectance functions, all contained within the volume bounded by the OCS surface, and their corresponding representations in a color space. This set of spectra can be used to generate training sets for a backpropagation algorithm computing color space transforms, for example.

Recovery of Shape and Surface Reflectance of Specular Object from Rotation of Light Source
In this paper, we present a method for recovery of shape and surface re ectance of specular object from color images taken with the light source rotating. The image sequence is taken with a xed camera while the light source is relatively rotating around the axis parallel to the optical axis of the camera. We derive the relationship between the body re ectance at every object surface point and t...

متن کاملEstimating Surface Re ectance Properties from Images under Unknown Illumination
Physical surfaces such as metal, plastic, and paper possess di erent optical qualities that lead to di erent characteristics in images. We have found that humans can e ectively estimate certain surface re ectance properties from a single image without knowledge of illumination. We develop a machine vision system to perform similar re ectance estimation tasks automatically. The problem of estima...
متن کاملThe Color Constancy Problem: An Illumination Invariant Mapping Approach
We suggest a novel approach to the Color Constancy Problem for multispectral imagery. Our approach is based on a dichromatic illumination model and lters out all spectral information which possibly stems from the illumination rather than from the re ectance of a given surface. Instead of recovering the re ectance signal, the suggested mapping produces a new only surface re ectance-dependent des...

This paper reports on a test of the ability to estimate above-ground biomass of tropical secondary forest from canopy spectral re ectance using satellite optical data. Landsat Thematic Mapper data were acquired concurrent with eld surveys conducted in secondary forest fallows nearManaus, Brazil and Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. Measurements of age and above-ground live biomass were made ...
